Urban Governance

Democracy is a way of life and enlightened citizens only can enjoy Civil Rights with Responsive Citizenship. Slum dwellers keep the city life throbbing and they deserve basic and better amenities and services like Water, Sanitation, Electricity, Roads, affordable Transportation and Educational, Health, Entertainment etc. which they are getting today.

 

This can be achieved only by collective strength.

 

Slum dwellers are busy with their own problems of survival and mundane issues. They don’t have the luxury to spare time and resources for collective problems and issues. We need to facilitate and empower them to realise that our good is in collective good. There are some global issues and problems that cannot be solved by individual efforts. Otherwise we will always remain at the receiving end. Our life will be sub-human.

 

Under this context it is the responsibility of civil society initiatives to do policy advocacy and create a platform of the people, by the people and for the people which can work as a pressure group.

Goals of the project can be summarised as under:

  • Making aware about Government Policies and Programs affecting their life
  • Facilitating slum-dwellers to organise themselves for ultimate good
  • Capacity Building: Participatory Strategic Planning for Urban Governance
  • Working on PPP Model for Welfare of All – Slum free Inclusive Development

Activities:

  • Content design and Publication of Campaign Materials (Posters, Banners, Leaflets).
  • Evening Awareness Meetings.
  • Civic Trainings of Local Leaders.
  • Legal literacy.
  • Camps, Workshops, Seminars involving all stakeholders.
  • Establishment and running of Urban Community Development Centres.
  • Facilitation the formation of ‘Special Purpose Vehicle’ for implementation.
